Dynamite Comics debuts its seven issue miniseries Legenderry: A Steampunk Adventure. It rounds up its roster of classic pulp, comics, and even TV heroes in an anachronistic pop culture mash up.

The series teams up comic heroes Red Sonja, the Phantom, Vampirella and Captain Victory with Buck Rogers, Zorro, the Bionic Man, the Green Hornet, and Kato. Writer Bill Willingham beams, “This is a story where I get to have my cake and eat it too. I get to work with some of my favorite characters from comic books, prose, and film, but also get to create brand new versions of each one of them.”

Willingham has pursued a similar intermingling of characters in the Vertigo Comic series Fables that places characters from folklore and fairy tales in the real world. Dynamite ran a miniseries called Masks that united pre-superhero mystery men like the Shadow, the Spider, and the Green Hornet.

Issue 1 of Legenderry unites Vampirella and the Green Hornet. They discuss the finer points of the perfect gin martini in her swank Scarlet Club, only to be rudely interrupted by gate crashing, heavily-armed thugs. A bloodbath ensues, only to find that the thugs are identical down to a scar over the eye. And why were they chasing the woman who appears to be Red Sonja’s sister?

Legenderry is available at your local comic book shop.
