Lockport’s Great Midwestern Ballyhoo, their Summer Art Series, wraps up their third annual Steampunk Weekend on September 24th and 25th. There will be a music fest, high tea, popup shopping and a scavenger hunt.

The music fest features Steam Powered Giraffe, Candy Town, and Libido Funk Circus. Formed in San Diego in 2008, Steam Powered Giraffe is more than a band. The singing antique automatons combine sketches, banter and pantomime into a mix enjoyable by the whole airship. Grease painted Candy Town is Chicago’s finest purveyor of “bounce” music. The songs and theatrics are like a Max Fleischer cartoon come to life. Libido Funk Circus is a veritable human jukebox, serving up a cocktail of disco, Motown and bass-thumpin’ beats. There will also be the magic and ventriloquism of Doc Barth’s Natural Remedies Traveling Medicine Show, mind-reading comedian Tim Cavanaugh, and Thomas Willeford from the Steampunk’d TV show.

The ladies of the Lockport Oolong Protectorate Society host a High Tea on September 25 at Embers Tap House Social Club. The Society has just returned from a spectacular tour of the major tea producing areas in China, Japan, and India on their dirigible airship, The Jewel of Lockport. You are Cordially Invited to join the Society at an Afternoon Tea to welcome them home from their triumphant voyage and sample teas collected during their travels. They will be providing tea from one of the oldest regions in the world, considered to be the birthplace of tea. You will be soothed by the beautiful music of a harpist and enjoy the beauty of textiles from around the world. The Tea is $35 per person, $20 children 10 and under. There will also be a champagne cash bar. Reservations must be made by September 21.
