The Human Marvels : Presenting Peculiar People

May

In light of last night’s deliriously delightful CLOCKWORK VAUDEVILLE and our belly dancers and magicians and strange bands named after the netherworld, it seems only fitting to enlighten the world to the existence of the The Human Marvels – an aether-site dedicated to those whom are more commonly known as “Freaks.”

The site’s host – one J. Tithonus Pednaud – has exhaustively compiled a comprehensive database of such individuals, even breaking them down to specific “types”, such as conjoined, gigantism and, of course, the classic pinhead.

Upon first inspection to the site, one inevitably finds themselves drawn to the macabre aspect of it.  It’s only human nature to try to find those who had the mis-fortune of being struck with a the most intense of deformities or handicaps.  But the website goes into great detail on virtually all of its subjects in regards to their history, personage and influences on the world, and it is there that is truly captivates the mind.

It really is a remarkable site, and one I suggest to the most dour and discerning reader.  It’s stories can be shocking, strange and sometimes even a bit disturbing – but they are also inspiring and more often than not triumphant.

And though I am not one to whole-sale capitalize on human suffering (just small-sale), sometimes I do miss a good show of the bizarre as well.

Best,

-The Lord Baron
