The Vertical Side Show presents Automatons, a steampunk burlesque set in the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. The January 27 and 28 shows will provide scintillating entertainment and a costume contest.
It’s 1893, and the World’s Columbian Exposition is in full swing. Professor Marvel reveals her secret workshop where her mechanical wonders and oddities perform prodigious acts of burlesque, sideshow feats, song and dance in a show so grand it could bring down the colonnades! The cast includes Alexis Bevels, Joseph Vourteque, Noah Grey, Ray Gunn, Midnite Martini, Lady Ginger, Willy LaQueue, Kat Sass, Aerial Emery and Lola Lesoleil.
Audience members are encouraged to come dressed in their best steampunk attire, for there will be an extraordinary costume contest! Post a photo of yourself in your favorite #steampunk gear with the hashtags #VerticalSideShow and #Automaton, and the Vertical Side Show will select their favorites at the Friday January 27th performance. The first place winner will receive tickets to April’s Vertical Side Show, a trip backstage to meet the cast and a signed cast poster. The second place winner will receive a trip backstage to meet the cast and a signed cast poster. The third place winner will receive a signed cast poster.
Ray Gunn, the 2013 King of Burlesque, created the Vertical Side Show. It reboots classic stage shows of yesteryear by combining striptease, acrobatics, gender bending, live singing, and theatrical dance. It was listed as one of the Top 10 burlesque and cabaret shows in Chicago in 2015.
