Our dear friend Matty Sirek passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016.
I’m lucky to have filmed the first day that I met Matty Sirek. It was at a steampunk gathering at Pleasant Home in Oak Park, IL. Mohawked Matty played croquet on the lawn and impressed everyone with the fact that they worked as a gear engineer. What could be a more steampunk job?

From battling the gender binary to battling cancer, Matty Sirek was an inspiration to the community. We love you and we miss you.

I met Matty at a New Year’s Eve party at Earl E.’s house, and at later events as well. They were always fun and interesting to talk to, and a joy to be around.
Their battle with cancer is heartbreaking, and they will be missed.
I hope you’re riding a glittery steampunk unicorn in the afterlife Matty!
