The Friends of the White City and the Jackson Park Advisory Council run free Columbian Exposition walking tours. Steampunk Chicago encourages you to join a tour on Saturday, September 20, 2014, from 11am to 1 pm.
The tour will cover:
The Palace of Fine Arts (Now the Museum of Science and Industry)
Wooded Island
Women’s Building
State Buildings
The Midway Plaisance
Statue of the Republic and The Great Basin
Manufacture and Liberal Arts Building
Haitian Pavilion
Convent of La Rabida
Cold Storage Building and Fire
Remaining Relics of the Expo and where to find them!
When and Where
The tour will begin and end at 11 am the west corner of the Park District Parking Lot on the South Side of the Museum of Science and Industry. There is easy access off of north- or south-bound Lake Shore Drive and Science Drive. The tour is expected to last 90 minutes and runs 1.5 to 2.5 miles.
Tour guide Ray Johnson is a former criminal investigator. He is the author of Chicago’s Haunt Detective and Chicago History—the Stranger Side.
The Friends of the White City recently received their IRS determination letter and are now officially a 501(c)(3) corporation. Bring some tip money for the end of the tour, and you might be able to make it tax deductable.
