Grab your parasols and walking sticks! The Chicago Steampunks will be strolling along the Chicago River on Sunday, June 12, 2016. We will meet at 12pm, at noon, on the Riverwalk at the southwest corner of the Clark Street Bridge. Just go down the stairs. All are welcome to this free event.
We had such a wonderful time ambling along the 606 Bloomingdale Trail in May that another Steampunk Stroll was requested. The group met above Damen Avenue, and then went to the western end and back. On the spot photographer Cheryl Cohen-Bugner posted in the Enemies of the Bloomingdale Trail Facebook group, “Who gave these Victorians a permit to March? [Sic]”
The Clark Street Bridge is just a block or so north of the Clark/Lake CTA station. Our meeting spot also marks the location of the Eastland Disaster. The SS Eastland toppled on July 25, 1915, killing 844 passengers. Keep your wits about you.
Along the way, we will stop at the McCormick Bridgehouse and Chicago River Museum. It is situated inside of the Michigan Avenue Bridge, and is free on Sundays. View the lifting gears and discover river history.
We will end the evening at Dylan’s Candy Bar at 445 N Michigan. Boozy sugary candy drink delightfulness waits for us!
