Steampunks will come a-ridin’ into town, a-whompin’ and whoopin’ for TeslaCon 6: The Wild Wild West. The three-day immersive event runs November 20th through the 22nd 2015 at the Marriott Madison West in Middleton, WI.
TeslaCon offers “layers of immersion” to the steampunk con experience. It sees Lord Bobbins and his heroic team confront the villains from S.W.A.R.M. They have travelled to the moon and 20,000 leagues beneath the aether. This year takes place in Rusty Gear Gulch where there will be a fashion show, Bouncy Broncos, the Southern Style Krieger Family Dinner (with sauerkraut) and a circus.
This year’s title derives from The Wild Wild West, the TV show that ran from 1965 to 1969. Spies were eclipsing the western genre so creator Michael Garrison developed a “James Bond on horseback” (with Vernian retro-futuristic technology to boot). It was adapted for the silver screen in 1999 with Will Smith and Kevin Kline.
Some precedent has been set for cow-steam-punk. The Wild Wild West Steampunk Cons have been held at the Old Tucson studio and amusement park in Arizona. The Old West Festival in Williamsburgh, OH features a steampunk weekend.
TelsaCon 6 will see almost 70 vendors, 20 makers panels, and quite possibly rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, train robbers, bank robbers and steampunks! It often sells out but tickets may be available at http://www.teslacon.com/#price.
