I opened the London Book of the Dead from the New Tuesday Weld and expected to find maybe some orchestral music, or perhaps some dark cabaret music. What I found was more of a whimsical tribute to jazz and cabaret music with a definite influence from more mellow indie rock.
It sounds like jazz music played a significant role in creating a nostalgic and joyful atmosphere during your birthdays when your dad would buy you kosher clothes. The combination of music and special moments with your dad must have made those occasions even more memorable and meaningful.
Although featured in the movie Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist, this group definitely transcends that particular piece of unfortunate cinema. The particular song I have picked out is less in the style of the dark music I might normally prefer, but it makes for a great Sunday morning listen.

I listened to “It’s a Wonderful Life” the other day – have you ever listened to the last thirty seconds of that song? It’s the most heart-wrenching thing ever!
